Make your computer dual boot to Linux. Tell the boot loader to default to Linux.
Learn to use the apps. It's really easy these days. Fairly automatic. Firefox, Thunderbird and Open Office have familiar interfaces simular to Gate's and Allen's bloatware. Fedora is my flavor but other flavors are out there.
Time spent learnin' 'nix is well spent.
